Thai Pongal celebration was celebrated by the youth group of Community Brotherhood Organization at the organizing office and at the Skanda Kumara temple in Kandasuridugama. Rituals and religious ceremonies related to the festival were also performed there. This is a festival held centering on the sun deity. It is a joyous festival associated with harvesting and thanking the sun for it, and expressing gratitude to all the animals and all the people who helped us live throughout the year, including the cows, as well as the equipment and machinery related to agriculture and trade. This festival is also known as "Makara Sankranti Festival".
